I am a Blogger since 2007 and was happy that my posts with my designs always topped the Google Image search until recently. It was in the first or second page in its category. Now a days it is not seen any where on the screen. The First pages are overtaken by the Web design Firms with better SEO. They have websites and the Blogs are relegated to the back pages. Even marketing sites like India Mart are listing my designs above e blogger. I am having good hits daily on my site. But Google has some how dropped their priority I guess.

Google Search Mistakes

I searched on Google Images by typing the word "Frock Designs" and I got 70% of the images of women in their 20's and 30's wearing Churidars and Gagras etc. posing as Models. Just a few images of girls in their Teens or younger wearing Frocks. Frocks are not meant for these grown up girls. Google has to get the sense right on their search programs I guess.

Dhan Theras in Kerala

Dhan Theras was a wet fire cracker in Kerala so was Diwali. The advertisers generally were pushing Akshaya Tritiya and Dhan Theras here in Kerala to woo the customers for some years. But now that Dhan Theras has got a cold response from Mallus just because they understood the logic ( or may be not) of getting more wealth if someone buys costly things like "GOLD" "HOMES" Expensive "ELECTRONIC GADGETS" or "SAREES" on these Auspicious Days.

Diwali Sales in Kerala

Diwali, the biggest Hindu festival in India is not celebrated in Kerala with much enthusiasm. But Onam is what Keralites are interested in. So Diwali is not a favourite for the Business community and Advt. fraternity here. It was evident in the Newspapers. The local businesses had a couple of advt. The desi corporates had some. Even the mood is not so upbeat in neighbouring Tamilnadu due to "Neelam" cyclone effect. Only the Textile shops there had some rush. The Gold shops did not see much rush. People (the aam aadmi) were just not in the festive mood.

Santa Claus Effect for Businesses

Come November, various Businesses across the board gets a good thrust in their order books due to the Christmas and New year season ahead. This year, it is not seen in Thrissur due to several domestic and external issues. It is almost the second week of November and the market is still lying low.

It was a honor to get the invitation for Nokia sponsored Apptasting event in ITC Gardenia, Bangalore on 11th November. There was Wine Tasting and Dinner as well along with Apps intro by Nokia. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the event.

Malayalam Newspaper Advertisement Trends of 2012

The Popular Malayalam Dailies are seeing a huge fall in Advertisement revenues from Local Clients. It is evident in the last couple of years. The Big spenders from Jewellery, Textile brand names are playing it more cautiously by releasing Colour advt. Full page, Half page etc. only during the Festival seasons. The Malayalam dailies are getting ads of Big Indian companies and MNC's during the off season. The Electronics, Automobile and Home Appliance brands are getting media spaces for a bargain tariff. Newspaper ads are going out of the reach of even big local brands in Kerala.

Just saw the Flex boards of the newly opened Pepper Restaurant at Punkunnam, Thrissur. It has very good visibility kept high on the electric posts... clean and crisp copy.... Line drawing of a Carrot and Red bell Pepper type Logo with Red Green combo. Excellent work and execution. Sure to catch the eyeballs. A real stand out from the clutter.

Flex Hoardings are an excellent value for money media. A 500 - 1000 sq. ft. Flex with high quality print and advt. work done by top notch ad agencies will guarantee millions of eyeballs for 3-6 months or beyond as per the contract. The advertisers know that and the recent flex hoardings of Kalyan Sarees in Thrissur are a proof of that. Clear and crisp copy and visual of a female model dressed up to resemble a queen as the caption goes. Newspapers are trying their best to get the Flex hoardings out of the scene showing all the disasters they do to the public. They print photos of flex banners falling down on the head of passers by and creating havoc in the monsoon rain and wind. They are inserting Ads in my Blog. But they have blocked my Account for PPC and all I have earned till now from 2007 is $15.00 .....!! I tried another site Infinity Ads also to Monetize my Blog. But they are also cheating by not paying out any money.

Kerala advt. fraternity is seeing a sea change in advt. agency versus client relationships these days. More and more big budget clients are hiring fresh and existing agencies to handle their account side by side with the AOR. There are several new kids on the block. Surprisingly these "New Kids" are old boys in new skin. They were the play makers or ace ad men in top notch agencies setting up new agencies. Also big clients with multi crore ad spend is setting up their own agencies to handle the advt. design, ad making and subsequent media buying and releases. This must be a disturbing news to the ad agency world.

2012 Onam Ramzan Shopping Spree in Thrissur

I just heard that Thrissur City has come to a halt due to the Shopping spree of Ramzan and Onam this year. Even though it is raining since morning, people are thronging shops for their festival shopping. Ramzan is gaining more importance in the recent years in Thrissur. It is evident in the shoppers profile and the business class recognises this trend and make special arrangements for the Muslims. The purchasing power of Muslims have shot up and the current weekend rush in the city is proof of that. Ramzan Chandrika is expected in these days. Onam is slated next week. Rain is dampening the mood of both the shoppers and the shop keepers these days and the business class is playing it cautiously with their advt. spend. Releasing more B/W newspaper advt. and less Colour Advt. The Newspapers have added an extra print with more ads and less news to maximise their ad revenues. You will notice that Thrissur and Kerala based advt. is mostly in the thick regular print than in the extra where the Newspapers relegate the North Indian and MNC clients ads.

2012 ONAM RAMZAN Shopping festival in Kerala

2012 is a special year for all kinds of Businesses in Kerala. This year Onam and Ramzan are falling very closely and the shops are advertising over the board to attract Hindu and Muslim population. The great surprise is while every business house especially Textile and Jewellery groups along with others are competing to send out the combined Onam Ramzan greetings, the newly opened EMKE silks in Thrissur owned by a Muslim did not mention about RAMZAN in their ads anywhere. They say Onam greetings to all. This is evident in Vanitha magazine and News paper ads.
What will be their Logic behind this ??

Thrissur is getting yet another big shop for Fabrics and Ready mades. EMKE Silks have opened their biggest showroom in Thrissur with around 1,60,000 sq. ft. of shopping area. This will hit the sales of newly opened Jayalakshmi, Kalyan Sarees and the old players Kalyan Silks, Pulimoottil and Immanuvel. The Muslim customers who are majority in all these other shops will now prefer to go to EMKE owned by a Muslim. This will prompt the others to heat up the competition by giving discounts and shouting Adi Sale, Moonsoon Mega Discount Sale, NRI Fest and the up coming Onam Shopping season will tell who is the clear winner and the runner up in Thrissur.
For the advt. fraternity, EMKE have played it smart by commissioning Takashi Waltar for their launching ads and now Pledge for their inaugural advt. Thrissur advt. agencies are loosing the battle to new kids on the block.
